Why Your Guide Roster Is Your Best Marketing
Climbers hire guides, not brands. A roster full of real, specific guide profiles out-markets a slick logo and a generic tagline every time.
A guide service is only as appealing as the guides on its roster. Yet a lot of services treat the team page as an afterthought — a logo, a line about "our certified guides," maybe a group photo from 2017.
That's a missed opportunity. Here's why your roster is your best marketing, and how to make it work.
Climbers hire people
When a climber is choosing between three services in the same destination, they're not really comparing logos. They're trying to figure out who they'd actually spend a day on the rock with. A roster that shows real guides — names, faces, bios, what they're good at, where they work — answers that question. A generic team page doesn't.
The climber who clicks through to a guide they like is a climber who's already half-sold on your service.
What a good roster profile looks like
- A real photo. Not a stock image, not a silhouette. A photo of the guide, ideally outside.
- A specific bio. What they care about, who they're best with, how long they've been at it. Not a resume dump.
- Their areas. The destinations they actually work, not a list of every crag in the country.
- Their specialties. Beginners, multi-pitch, trad, families — the things that let a climber self-select.
- Credentials, in context. A current PCGI cert (our preferred standard) tells a climber the guide is trained. The bio tells them whether they'd enjoy the day.
Link the profiles
If your guides have their own career profiles on Dialed, link them. A climber who lands on your service page and clicks into a guide they connect with has just made your service their first choice.
It also helps your guides. A roster that links out is a roster that builds individual reputations — and individual reputations are what make a service durable when guides eventually move on.
Keep it honest
Don't list guides who aren't actually working with you. Don't keep a roster photo from three seasons ago. A roster that's current and specific builds more trust than a polished one that's quietly out of date.
The throughline
Your roster is the proof that everything else on your profile is real. Fill it in. Link it. Keep it current. It'll do more for you than any ad buy.
